Mary Nystrom Memorial | Obituary | Condolences | Prince Albert

<div itemprop="description">It is with much love and profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our Dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend in the arms of her youngest daughter in the early evening hours on Christmas Day in ICU at the Victoria Hospital Prince Albert at the age of 91 years. Mary was born November 19, 1922 growing up on the family farm in Lintlaw, SK, the eldest of three. Mom is survived by her three daughters Marilyn (Sam), Lorraine (Peter), Shirlee; her grandchildren Christina, Stephen, Aric, Jolene and their families and great-grandson Brendan; her brother Bennett, brothers-in-law Ken, Ervin (Evelyn), sisters-in-law Edna, Alma (Art), Elaine and many nephews, nieces , cousins and friends. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Earl on May 10, 2008; parents Anna and Nels Lindholm; sister Alexandra; in-laws Olander and Syster Ingaborg “Inga” Nystrom; sisters-in-law Edith (Albert), Evelyn (Jack), Ethel (Howard), Wilma; brothers-in-law Alvin (Irene) and Nesbert. It was while on the farm that Mom acquired her many talents of cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and her love of flowers. Mom was blessed with the gift of hospitality and many a wonderful meal was served to family and friends and a host of Square Dancers over the years. Her love and compassion for animals, birds and nature in general shone forth in the many creatures she nursed back to health then set free. Our home always had a variety of permanent and transient pet family members. Her “green thumb” produced an abundance of produce and beautiful flowers enjoyed by many over her lifetime. Mom was a very humble and loving woman never seeking recognition rather giving generously behind the scenes whenever a need was there. Mom married the Love of her Life, Earl on May 26, 1941 on her family farm then moved to Saskatoon where their oldest daughter was born. When Dad left to serve in WW II shortly after her birth Mom worked at Arthur Rose Drycleaners until his return. Their second daughter was born there prior to moving to Prince Albert where their youngest daughter was born. Once the girls were older Mom worked for Home Care. Mom was an active member of St. George’s Anglican Church. Upon Dad’s retirement they built and lived at their “lake home” where they spent many wonderful years continuing to Square and Round dance, curl, bowl, fish, camp and were active in the Senior’s club there. Mom assisted Dad in National Presidency for Square Dancing making many lifelong friends. Mom loved to Dance and they were active members of St. George’s Starshooters Club. Mother by example you taught us the gifts of Faith, Hope, Charity and Love. God’s Gift to you this Christmas was the Greatest Gift of all – Eternal life in Heaven with Dad. We will remember you as We Love you. Your cherished memory lives on in our hearts. The family would like to thank Parkland Paramedics Brody and Darren, Drs. Gallins, Ali and the nurses of Emergency and ICU. Also many thanks to Angie Kopera and her staff at Kopera’s Care Home where Mom spent several years since Dad’s passing, for their loving care. The Family will be planning a Celebration of Mary and Earl’s lives on their Wedding Anniversary May 26, 2014. Officers and members of the Royal Canadian Legion will confer veterans honours. The location and time will be announced closer to this date. In lieu of other tributes memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or charity of donor’s choice.
