Sister Anais Rodier, (Sister Marie-Alice) of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the age of 85 in the Provincial House Infirmary at 1405 Bishop Pascal Place in Prince Albert, SK. Prayer service will be held from the Chapel of the Provincial House Chapel on Thursday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated from this same chapel on Friday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m. by His Excellency Bishop Albert Thévenot. Sister was born on December 23, 1928 in Duck Lake, SK. Marie-Alice lived in St. Laurent until the age of ten, during which she was a resident at the convent in Duck Lake for three years. In 1939 the family moved back to Arborfield where her parents first made their home. After completing her high school education, she enrolled in the Commercial Class offered in Duck Lake. In 1948 she chose to enter the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. During her training and studies in St. Hyacinthe, QC, “mission life” attracted her. Upon returning to Saskatchewan she was stationed at the Academy in Prince Albert, Spiritwood, Bellevue, Albertville and in Manitoba The Pas and Laurier. Her teaching career in Canada lasted from1951 to 1967 when the call to be a missionary in Africa became a reality. She began her missionary life in Bignona, Casamance, Sénégal. After two years she was transferred to The Gambia for the apostolic work she had always dreamt of. From 1976 to 1986 she served on the formation team in Fajara, The Gambia, and then became part of the Administration staff in Dakar, Sénégal until 1996. In August 1996, visits to doctors in Saskatchewan revealed cancer. After surgery and a year of convalescence, Sister Marie-Alice felt well enough to return to her much loved Gambia. Very early in 1998 one mild stroke was followed by two others, and at the end of March 1998 she returned to rest and recover in the Infirmary of the Sisters in Prince Albert. Sister Marie-Alice was discreet and supportive of others in their life journey, affirming them and drawing the best out of each person. Sister had an unquenchable zeal nourished in faithful personal and community prayer. All are united in saying that Sister Marie-Alice’s gentle and serene spirit won over every heart at home and abroad.
