<div itemprop="description">It is with sadness that the family of Stanley Gomulczak announce his passing on Thursday, March 14, 2013. He passed away peacefully in Calgary at the Agape Hospice, after a brief battle with cancer, at the age of 86 years. Stanley was born in Dombrova, Poland on November 21, 1926, the second of three children born to Tomasz and Maria. In WW II, the family was forcibly resettled and sent to a Siberian work camp. When they were released in 1941, Stanley and his father joined a Polish unit of the British army in Palestine. He served in the Polish Carpathian Lancers and fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino in Italy. Immigrating to Canada in 1947, he married Mary on April 27, 1952, raising five children. In 1972 Mom and Dad built their home in Crestview Acres. They were blessed with ten grandchildren who spent many days with Grandma and Grandpa at their acreage. He was very proud of his Polish heritage. He was an active member of the Polish Combatants Association (also serving as President), the Polish Hall and the Polish Parish. Stanley received his journeyman carpenters certificate in 1958 and will be remembered as a master craftsman for the many homes and cupboards he built. He combined his passion for fishing with his skills in carpentry, handcrafting his own wooden boat in 1956. He spent countless days fishing both summer and winter at Kingsmere, Montreal, East Trout and Candle Lakes. In 2007, Dad moved to Calgary to be closer to his children. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, his parents Tomasz and Maria and grandson Ryan. Stanley is survived by five children: Valerie (Stephen), Stephanie (Reg), Rosalie (Roy), Carol (Jim) and Tom; nine grandchildren, his sister and family in Wroclaw, Poland and brother and family in Cambridge England; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in PA and BC, as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends wishing to pay their last respects may do so on Sunday, March 17 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at River Park Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday March 18 by Father Janusz Bizewski. Interment will follow at the Garden of Gethsemane, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
